The work has begun!

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

I signed the lease and got the keys today!!!

Job number 1, get the blackboard wall completed before the flooring goes down.

The awesome blackboard workout wall

Job number 2, stick down the 6 rubber tiles I have to create an edge for laying the other 94 tiles tomorrow.

6 down, 94 to go...

Job number 3, get the lockers in place.

18 new lockers

Now tomorrow the fun begins when a lot of the equipment and all the rubber flooring arrive!

We’ll definitely be open on Tuesday as I am moving out of Randwick studio on the weekend. The place won’t be finished, but it will be great for training by Tuesday.

We will be waiting on signage, air conditioning, pull up bars and the extra concept 2 erg’s, but what we have got is all we need to get started!

It’s all very exciting!!!

How do you justify your junk food?

Sunday, September 26th, 2010

I just got back from I nice afternoon at the beach with the kids and let me tell you, there are some bodies out there that are not ready to be exposed to the sunlight!

So I was having my snack on the beach of protein shake, fruit and nuts when I looked over to the family next to us who was chowing down on a big burger each.

Now I know just as much as the next person how much fun you can have at the beach. It is one of my favourite pass times, just playing in the sand with the kids. When you are in this “fun” mode, it is so easy to justify eating junk food. But, if you really think about it, does going to the beach justify eating junk food? Really?

I think the answer is no. The beach is great, sand, sun, surf. But in what crazy world does that then mean eat crap food?

I’m not just going to isolate just the family next to us, there were loads of people tucking into fish and chips, ice creams etc. But, the reason I thought about the family next to us was because the father was constantly staring at my wife. Meanwhile, his wife is so embarrassed by her body that she wears a wrap around her one price swim suit and then her husband buys her a giant hamburger all the while wondering why his wife doesn’t look like mine.

She obviously was embarrassed by her body to wear the one piece and the wrap, but she obviously wasn’t too embarrassed because she was more than happy to chow down on that hamburger in front of everyone.

I think we all need to realise when we are falsely justifying eating junk food for no real reason.

Food is a fuel and a drug. It provides us energy and nourishes our body. In order for it to do that, it has to be healthy and nutritious. One treat day a week is all we need. Eat clean the other 6 days.

Food court choices

Monday, September 13th, 2010

A quick thought…

Yesterday I was observing people in a shopping centre which only had one food outlet to choose from. Not that 1 outlet is a choice, unless you bring your own. (which I did)

I can handle people eating a big sandwich or burger or something like this in this particular situation, but what I don’t understand is the seemingly necessary accompaniments that almost everyone had at their tables…

A bottle of soft drink, or a popular choice was lipton ice tea and a muffin or donut.

Ok, it may be necessary to eat the burger, but there is no excuse for the sugar drink and the fatty sugar dessert. Especially when most of the people who were eating it look like they should have been on a diet years ago!

Time to make some smarter choices…
