Great article thanks Troy – but as the resident agricultural scientist I feel COMPELLED to say what he says about organics in inaccurate. Organics generally require more land to produce as much as conventional ag. granted fertilisers and pesticides are geeraly used on conventional agriculture ,but not at the rates most people assume – and all have to be applied within strict health and environmental with-holding periods.
I dont think anyone wins by making conventional agricuture the loser – especially given spiraling land productivity levels, ballooning population and global water deficits.
OK – I’l get off my soap box now. I loved the article!
