Desire, Learn, Do CONSISTENTLY – My recipe for success

Monday, May 31st, 2010

I have always said that Consistency is the vital key to success at just about anything you desire, but I want you to have a think about this…

I am going to use weight loss as my example for obvious reasons, but you can apply this to anything you like and still get the same result.

If desire was to get you to your goal, why are there so many people talking about how they want to look and feel but ultimately stay fat?

If motivation was to get you to your goal, why are there so many people signing up with gyms and trainers but soon falling by the way side and staying fat?

If knowledge was to get you to your goal, why are we constantly bombarded with information about healthy eating and proper exercise yet still hold the record as the most obese nation in the world?

“We often desire something and this motivates us to take action to learn what to do and start doing it, but unless you consistently do what you know you have to, you will never reach that end goal.”

Everyday the cells in our body change, my beard will prove it!

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

Everyday the cells in our body are changing. They are either growing stronger form the nutritious food we eat or they are growing weaker from the crappy food we eat.

I know this is a silly question, but what do want to happen to the cells in your body?

Grow stronger and fight off disease?

or

Grow weaker and be more susceptible to disease?

Pretty simple answer really. So why put crappy food into your body everyday?

I think a major part of it is that we can’t actually see our cells growing. If we can’t see it, we probably won’t think about it. True? True!

Last week I had a minor operation and am out of action with training for a couple of weeks. Now to most people, a couple of weeks off is nothing, but I train 5 – 6 days a week and have several events coming up that I need to be ready for.

So a couple of weeks, what’s the big deal, not much can happen to your body in a couple of weeks right? Wrong!

Now I am not worried about gaining bodyfat, I eat clean and I’ll be fine, but I am worried about losing muscle and decreasing my aerobic capacity.

In 2 weeks you ask? But I take 2 weeks or more off quite regularly.

Well to demonstrate, I have decided to do an extremely simple demonstration of what the human body will do day to day over a couple of weeks. When you see this, you can realise what affect time has on your body. Everyday you eat crap food and everyday you don’t exercise, your body will react to it negatively. Everyday you eat good food and everyday you exercise correctly, your body will react to it positively!

I am going to grow a beard for the time that I cannot exercise. Growing a beard is a very simple way to see that the body is growing everyday. It is a reminder that whilst my beard is growing, my muscles may be shrinking and my aerobic capacity may be decreasing.

This is a simple way to see the cells growing on the outside of the body. It won’t show you if they are growing stronger or weaker, but it will show you them growing and hopefully you can figure out that what you put into your body is feeding them.

So next time you think a meal you ate or the week you took off training didn’t affect you, think again!

What clear thinking person could watch hair grow day to day and not think their other cells are growing day to day. And what clear thinking person could know that their cells are growing but not accept that fact that they are feeding those cells the fuel to grow with the food they eat and the beverages they drink.

Challenge Valley round 1 complete

Monday, May 17th, 2010

We hit Challenge Valley on Saturday in preparation for the Tough Bloke/Chick Challenge.

It was awesome fun! I want one of those courses in my backyard!

Over and under logs, climbing nets, climbing logs, crawling through muddy pipes, crawling through water undernets, monkey bars, flying foxes, climbing through tyres, over balance beams, they had the lot!

I have to admit it was a bit blokey when you have to get down in the mud, but everything else would be heaps of fun for both male and female.

I will organise another one in June, so let me  know if you are keen to give it a go. Click here to register interest.

4th and 5th place for 2 Fitta Bodies teams at the Blackheart Adventure Race

Monday, May 10th, 2010

Last Saturday was the Blackheart adventure race at Narrabeen and we had 4 Fitta Bodies teams ready and raring to go in a field of 102 teams.

The race started with a navigational run through the Garrigal national park. My team started off strong, but like most of the field, we lost a lot of time looking for a checkpoint that wasn’t there.

We hopped on our bikes for a few more checkpoints and got to the bike drop in 2nd place. After a brief but very, very cold swim across the river where we got overtaken by a couple of teams, we ran around the coastline to be 4th into the kayaks with Team 3 boarding the kayaks on 5th place. Yay!

The kayak was interesting as it was fairly shallow in parts and we had to get out and push the kayaks through the water.

We exited the water in 4th place and ran for the first bonus checkpoint we would attempt to collect, then it was onto the final few checkpoints. We decided on collecting one more bonus checkpoint before hitting the water for the long swim home. Thankfully, it wasn’t too deep, never deeper than shoulder height, so you could jog through the water for most of it. With team 3 hot on our tails, we sprinted from the water towards the finish line, coming in about 20 seconds before team 3.

We were actually the 4th and 5th teams across the line, but because of the bonus checkpoint system, we beat some of the teams that came in before us and some of the teams that came in after us, collected more bonuses than us, so they beat us.

Our final result was 3rd in the Male category and 4th overall. So we got our first podium finish and collected a prize.

But, the results have been posted on the Blackheart website and it says…

Team 1 was 4th in male category and 5th overall.

Team 3 was 5th in the male category and 6th overall.

Team 2 was 9th in the mixed category and 35th overall.

Team 1.5555 was 40th in the male category and 57th overall.

I think all of our teams did great, I am proud of everyone!

Bring on the next one in June!

Who’s in?

If you want to leave any comments or ask any questions about the races, post it onto the forum.

Sponsor Tori for her first half marathon

Monday, May 10th, 2010

One of our group training members Tori Edwards has been doing some running with Cantoo outside of our training and this weekend, she is running her first half marathon.

Here is a little blurb from her and a link to where you can go and sponsor her.

Next Sunday I’ll be running my first half marathon to raise money for cancer research.  I’ve been training since February with Can Too – a great organisation that partners with Cure Cancer Australia to raise funding for young Australian researchers.  My training group has committed to the huge task of raising $90,000 to fund our own researcher, and if we can hit the target (we’re nearly to $80,000 now), we will all get to participate in choosing the researcher who will be awarded our grant. Pretty exciting!

I’ve loved the training, and am really looking forward to race day next weekend.  I’ve already hit my minimum fundraising goal of $1250 a few weeks back – now I’d love to try and crack $2000.

If you are able to spare any amount (however small) please go to www.cantoo.org.au <http://www.cantoo.org.au/> , click on ‘sponsor a participant’ and type in my surname (Edwards).  You can then pick me out of the list.

Many thanks for the support!  Every time I run up the hills on the race course, I’ll try to think of Fitta Bodies and remember that Hunter Street is nothing compared to our “Hill”!

Cheers,

Tori
