It is not too late to put your name down. It is much easier to stick to something if you are accountable to others for your actions.

Feel free to join any time this month, the earlier the better, but I would never stop anyone from taking action to improve their health.

  1. Peta Says:

Mistakes??? Apart from the fact I forgot yesterday was the 1st of the month – I’m planning for success. Tomortrow I’m planning to be back to training.

  2. Darrin Says:

Bugger, day 1 and I am at my desk working on a freaking policy and I reach out and pick up a Chocolate Eclair lolly and put it in my mouth and chew for several minutes before I realise. Talk about automation. The lolly was there for 2 weeks and I never touched it!!!! Damn. Ok all good tomorrow, no mistakes.

  3. kirsty Says:

so, I had one glass of champagne this afternoon and one really small chocolate … but it was shaped like a heart so it doesn’t count … and I haven’t eaten any diet coke cans

  4. Luke C Says:

Ok, I had one lite beer & two glasses of wine on Sunday, 1 Nov. (I thought they may go off if they stayed in the fridge until December….) The fridge is now empty of temptation, and I’m in the groove with the healthy diet. Hoping to lose 4-5 kilos with increased attendance in the mornings plus the healthy eating.

  5. Kelly Says:

Forgive me Fitness Guru, for I have sugar sinned….. On the 1st of November I vowed that no sugar or alcohol would pass my lips until the 30th… Yesterday I broke my vow, however slightly. I ate a slice of banana bread, a very small serving of white bread, and 3 pieces of sushi. I also enjoyed 2 glasses of champagne in the evening. The punishment I have given myself, is today I will endeavour to be super super healthy!!

  6. Christie Says:

Given it was my birthday yesterday, I did eat a piece of cheese cake and 1 beer that night …. pretty good !

    BUT
Im having a party on Saturday so Im confessing early … there will be too many sins to document !

  7. kirsty Says:

check out facebook if you want to see what I DIDN’T eat today …

  8. Tori Says:

I’m surviving out here in north-west NSW – so far no sugar (no mean feat in the land of tea and biccies) and no deep fried buffets!

  9. Matt b Says:

I’m late to put my name down but did start no sugar on 1st nov..
As an added incentive I have given myself the punishment
for an indescretion of 10 burpees, doubling it for each subsequent
lapse in concentration.. I hav yet to lapse.. I hate burpees.

  10. Jovana Says:

ok i just made a mistake. i ate half a packet of chips before realising that im eating potato! urgh. i knew there was a reason why i was feeling guilty about eating it!

  11. Darrin Says:

Here are some low carb recipes I found – http://au.food.yahoo.com/recipes/cookbook/-/low-carb/

    What do you think Troy?

  12. Genevieve Says:

OK, time to fess up to my sins over the past 6 days although most of them are rice related!

Sun 1st – I was out shopping and was starving so i succumbed to a seaweed sushi roll. I know its’ not basmati rice.
Wed 4th – Got a Thai takeaway (a fish stir fry, no coconut cream & lots of fresh veggies) but amazingly enough my local Thai doesn’t sell basmati rice so i got the brown rice instead.
Friday 6th – I made a chicken stirfry at home and chucked in the left over brown rice from my Thai takeaway.

Let’s see what else…. I had celery with peanut butter and it wasn’t the ‘all natural’ variety of peanut butter.

I think that is it. I am keeping a food diary (finally) and I’m finding that is really helpful for tracking what i am putting into my body.

    Time to do some burpies!

  13. Troy Shipsey Says:

Kirsty, you are a champ at resisting these cakes over and over again.
Jovana you did say potatoes would be your downfall.
    Recipes look good Darrin.
Genevieve, if that’s the worst you have done, then I’m happy! But do the burpees anyway, they’ll do you good:)

  14. kirsty Says:

Genevieve, sun rice do brown basmati rice in those 90 second microwave bags … They’re meant to be 2 servings per pack, but I reckon their serving sizes are a bit big so I normally keep a few in the cupboard, then when I open the pack I split them into 4 little zip lock bags and keep in the fridge, then u can just chuck a single serve zip lock bag straight in the microwave and just open one corner for the steam … Reaaally handy for Thai takeaway!

  15. Tori Says:

Confession of my first lapse – three glasses of wine at my high school reunion last night. Back on the no sugar wagon today!

  16. Jane Says:

Ok almost a week without alcohol – strangely Iam not missing it or the tim tams after dinner the only big thing I miss is my 10am Nescafe Mocha with a splenda in it – could a Nescafe Skim cappachino substitute it is my only coffee a day?

I am eating my fruit with plain Yalna no taste blah natural yogurt, I cant believe how sweet fruit is tasting – is the yougurt instead of the almonds OK?

Also I looked for a no sugar banana bread as fruit insects are driving me out of the house as my 3 bananas go brown. I found one, flour, walnuts, cinnamon and vanilla and that is it – I left the 1/3 cup puree apple out – served it for morning tea and only had a piece – is this OK? Or am I up for burpees?

    Jane

  17. Genevieve Says:

Kirsty, thanks for the tip on the basmati rice. I’ll look out for it the next time i’m at the supermarket.

  18. Darrin Says:

    Sunday 7th – 2 sqaures on lindt chocolate (20gms)

  19. louise w Says:

So my first lapse was friday.. but it was not entirely my choice – a so called friend spiked my water with vodka, how rude! I didn’t allow anyone else to get drinks for me after that.. and I had another lapse on saturday, a piece of potato and a piece of bread at tapas. extra burpees for me now..

  20. Rachel Says:

I’m proud to say that I survived the entire weekend sugar free. No beers for me. For those that know me well enough know how tough that is for me. Only 22 days to go!! I had a thought on the weekend while my sister was eating a cup cake.

Troy – Can you put the sugar (or cupcake, chocolate or whatever) in your mouth chew it and then spit it out? Effectively you are not eating it right? Just tasting it. Don’t worry I won’t try it with the beer, I wouldn’t be able to help myself but the cupcake I might :)

  21. Troy Shipsey Says:

    Rach, I hope you’re joking! http://blog.fittabodies.com/2009/11/09/1-week-down-for-nosugarvember/

  22. Christie Says:

    Hi
I had my 30th Birthday party on Saturday night ….. too many things to confess. Lets just say that I was definately off the sugar free diet.
    BUT
Im back on board today !

….. kelly still waiting for your confession !

  23. Troy Shipsey Says:

Jane, it is great to find recipes without sugar, well done. But, try to avoid the sweet treats all together for this month. When you come back in December, hopefully your tastebuds will be a little less sweeter and then when you need cake, make something like you have mentioned above and we are in front by a mile, it sounds like a very healthy cake recipe! But for this month, try to avoid those things all together to change habits and tastebuds.

  24. Troy Shipsey Says:

Louise, no dramas about the bread and potato, all in all you’re doing great.
Christie, I hope you enjoyed your birthday, it’s one of those special occassions you can get away with it:)
    Darrin, 5 burpees!

  25. Kelly Says:

Unfortunately there isn’t enough space or time for my suagr sins, lets just say there was beer, wine, savoury pastries, profiteroles (custard and caramel) and sticky date pudding all involved. C’mon!! I just couldn’t offend Christie’s lovely, sweet mum by not eating all her hard work… That would have been rude.
I’m starting again – there are no upcoming special occasions, so no excuses anymore.

  26. Cass Says:

After recovering my serviette journal from my weekend camping trip, it is now that I delve into my disgraces:

It all started when I ordered my 7am long black coffee for the drive down, only to receive a mocha by mistake from my friendly barista. Bless him, but it was all down hill from here. What followed was a weekend of 5 x beers, 8 marshmallows, 2 slices of sourdough toast, 1 x fire baked potato, potato salad, tomato sauce, 2 glasses of OJ, 3 x timtams, several jelly snakes and half a packet of corn chips (??)

Hmmm…time to get back to reality.

  27. Jovana Says:

Ok i just came back from Chinese restaurant and i couldn’t turn down my favourite chinese dish- pecking duck! I know that the pancakes are not whole grain, but i only had two of them… so maybe not so bad? On top of this, we got free fruit at the end and little bite sized cakes – i had one and a half of these tiny cakes! :D

Also on the weekend, i came across my favourite drink ever- homemade lemonade with mint in it! I’ve only seen this in cafes maybe twice or three times so I couldn’t resist the temptation. There was no sugar in it but i had to add a bit, but lucky it was in an organic cafe so the sugar i added was raw/brown.

So far I’m very surprised at how well I’ve resisted by biggest temptation- dark chocolate. Me and my mum can get through a few blocks a week but surprisingly I’m not having any cravings! If I can not have any dark chocolate for the rest of the month it will be a huge accomplishment!

  28. Troy Shipsey Says:

Jovana, you are doing great with your chocolate cravings, I am really impressed! I hope you are pushing out those burpees for the lemonade and the cake! That would be 5 last week, 10 for the cake and 20 for the lemonade. Don’t mess up again, it’ll be 40 burpees straight up next time!!!

  29. Troy Shipsey Says:

Well Cassandra, firstly I have to applaude you for accepting the challenge. i did put your name down for some reason without you even enrolling. It was an honest mistake, but it was meant to be, because you have taken on the challenge. I totally understand letting yourself go on the weekend, it was a planned trip and you wanted to enjoy it, so no dramas. Thanks for being honest;) Now do your burpees…ha ha

  30. Tori Says:

Lunch-time transgression (not too bad I don’t think, bless the small serving sizes at fancy restaurants) – a tablespoon full of mashed potato on top of my snapper at a work lunch. Will save the burpees for when I’m not in my (one glass-walled) office.

  31. Troy Shipsey Says:

That’s not bad Tori, not even really worth the burpees!!! But do them anyway:)

  32. Genevieve Says:

When i first started this challenge i thought it would be the chocolate and alcohol that would be my downfall… definitely not rice and bread!

I met up with some friends for brunch yesterday, and everything on the menu came with sourdough bread. Breakfast was delicous though!

  33. kirsty Says:

Tim made a blueberry cheesecake for a friend’s dinner party tonight. I tasted it but only because he’d made it. Two mouthfulls, did my burpees on the spot … was the only sober one there and did NOT find it anywhere near as amusing as everyone else…

  34. Jovana Says:

lol @ kristy. i did my burpees too but in the privacy of my home!

  35. louise w Says:

I made a coconut passionfruit butter cake for mum’s birthday yesterday so couldn’t go without sampling the finished product.. and had 2 champagnes and a cocktail (mum was going to disown me if i didn’t partake)..back on the wagon now.

  36. Kristin Says:

ok so I have not been on here in a while so have some delayed confessions…

I went away with friends last weekend and there were cocktails, wine, bread and chocolate! I also had a couple of celebratory drinks after a friends play on friday night…oh and a glass of sangria at tapas on sat night.

After doing my thousands of burpees tonight I am sure I will be much better at this!!

  37. kirsty Says:

Thanksgiving dinner … four (or maybe five) champagnes. But I DIDN’T have the mashed potato, or the potato salad, or the potato bake, or the white bread rolls, or the pecan pie, or the chocolate cake, or the lemon tart or the ice cream …
    so there

  38. kirsty Says:

Ps – I don’t believe that I’m the only person who has slipped up since the 16th …

  39. Tori Says:

No – you’re not Kirsty – I had some non-Basmati rice with a thai stir fry last night

  40. Genevieve Says:

Yay… it’s the last day of No-Sugar-Vember and I’ve survived the month (so far at least) without a drop of alcohol and no cakes, biscuits, etc.

I do need to fess up to a few slip ups over the past couple of days though. My sister cooked a lovely gnocci dish on Saturday night and we had the leftovers for dinner again last night. And today I had a white bread roll for lunch (no choice).

    So here is the summary of my sins for the month;

    - sushi rice and brown rice instead of basmati rice
    - white and sourdough bread instead of multi-grain
    - peanut butter (not the kind you buy in health food stores anyway)

I think that is it so, all in all, a pretty good achievement I think. I may even continue into December, although I am sure i won’t last the month with christmas parties on the horizon!
