The No Sugar Challenge – Join Now!

With summer fast approaching, everybody starts to panic about getting their winter bodies out. Most of us had grand intentions over the past few months of getting in great shape and some of us have. Unfortunately though many of us have slipped up far too aften and the results we should have achieved didn’t come to fruition.

Add to this, the party season approaching in December and we have a recipe for 1 piece costumes at the beach and ankle length skirts for the girls. Guys, that 6 pack you dreamed of sporting at the beach this year looks more like a keg than a 6 pack.

But, there is hope. Make November your best month to date!

Join the No sugar challenge!

Here’s the rules:

All rules apply for the entire month of November.

When you mess up, which I am sure you will, at least once. You have to write down what you did on the blog for everyone to see. This alone will help to keep you on track. There is nothing like being accountable to keep you on track, let alone being accountable to everyone in the challenge!

No refined sugar at all.

No sugar in tea or coffee.

No artificial sweeteners either!

No cakes, chocolates, lollies, soft drinks etc

No bottled fruit juice

No alcohol

No dried fruit

Only 2 serves of fruit per day

No sweetened yogurt

No white potato

Only mulitgrain bread if you must have bread

Only basmati rice if you must have rice

Pasta no more than twice a week

If you follow this, you are sure to trim away the bodyfat. I don’t like to make outrageous comments, but I am positive if you follow these rules, you will get leaner!

It really doesn’t take that long to change your tastebuds and reduce the amount of sugar in your diet. Try it for 30 days and see how you feel. Other than being thinner and healthier, I bet you won’t crave it as much either!

If you are keen to join the challenge, enter your name in the comments and any other info you might like to add and then consider yourself part of the challenge.

I hope by the 31st October we have a large list of names to join the challenge.

  1. Christie Says:

    Okay, Im in for November.

  2. Kelly Says:

Righto! I’m in!! An example of a 7 week meal plan would be great, with included snacks. Thanks. What did we decide on chickpeas, lentils, 4-bean mix?? Too high in carbs? And if you were to recommend a yoghurt? And is there a right time to consume the fruit – ie – is it bad to have it after dinner/afternoon?

  3. Peta Says:

Mission accepted – melbourne Cup and settlement celebrations will be an interesting start to the month!

  4. Christie Says:

Im excluding any party/celebrations that I may HAVE to endure for my birthday … okay ..

  5. Louise Says:

It will be very tough.. but i’ll give it a go. Just wondering is honey bad? Thanks.

  6. Troy Shipsey Says:

    Alright, 4 starters already!!

Yes, honey will have the same affect on blood sugar levels and insulin as sugar, so it is out as well!

You can have a pass on your birthday only.

As far as Melbourne cup and other things, there are always going to be reasons to indulge. No matter what the time of yera, there are special events, parties, nights out or for some people just a Friday night poses a problem, but it is learnign to curb habits and being able to enjoy your selves without the use of alcohol or junk food.

I can only recommend plain yogurt. All others just have too much sugar.

I will get a food plan up very soon.

Beans are fine. No sugar, enough protein and high in fibre..

Now where are Rachel and Darrin?

  7. Rachel Says:

Ok, I’m in. The no beer thing is going to be really hard, but willing to give it a go!

  8. Luke C Says:

Ok Troy, I’m a glutton for punishment – put me down !

  9. Jovana Says:

ok i’m in! I already started reducing my sugar intake because of your blogs! so this should be easy! :D .. except for the potato bit :S

  10. Kirsty Says:

I’m in but can I still have diet coke? pleeeease?

also, I think my cough medicine has sugar in it, so can that be an exemption until I’m better?

ps … if you change the rules so that we have to post their mess-ups on the facebook group aswell, then ALL of our friends will see it in their news feeds too … ha!

  11. jo Says:

    sweet :) …… ! ok i in

  12. Genevieve Says:

OK, count me in as well! Two challenges for November: to turn up to classes and no sugar. Wow, it might be a tough month!

  13. Tim Says:

Wowzers! Big call. Let the MoVember Moustaches motivate you, as they grow you will all be reducing…

  14. Goldie. Says:

    Hi Troy
I gave up sugar and lost 8 kilos and feel so much better. But I must say that I have to have started eating dried fruit in my trail mix again its AND for some reason I drink 3 times the coffee I did before I gave up sugar so I’m putting that down to an energy buzz that I’m used to from eating all those lollies. But giving up sugar was a definite plus for me on many levels. cheers for now.

  15. Jessie Says:

    Alright Alright, I’m in.
Wine tasting at work? Am I going to have to spit it out?

  16. Troy Shipsey Says:

I am so happy to now have atleast 11 people on board. I don’t see what the big deal is really, you stop eating junk food, don’t sweeten your caffeine and avoid alcohol. Those are the 3 main things to think about. The rest are about making natural healthy food choices.
    Cough medicine is fine…
Jovana, well done on already making a start, have you noticed a difference in your weight?
Goldie, that is awesome news. It is amazing how bad sugar is for us.
Kirsty, Diet coke… it’s your body. Personally I would rather eat the can it comes in.
I will get the 7 day plan etc. up by Tuesday.
    Good luck:)

  17. Monika P Says:

I just saw the challenge :-) its great – I’m in as well. I have not too many sacrifices only my weekly Bananabread… and dried fruits..

  18. Kristin Says:

Ok I’m in too. I’ll give it a go!

  19. Tori Says:

Ok…. I’ll give it a try too – hopefully shouldn’t involve too many changes. Sounds like I’m in good company from the growing list above!

  20. Darrin Says:

SOUR!!! Ok I am in … no/less sugar has helped drop 3kg on me.

  21. Jane Says:

OK I am in – just touched down from NZ – and 3 days late but no sugar past these lips ( until the bday on 21st or Peta’s on the 28th). After eating my way around NZ for the last 6 days this will be a challenge.

    Jane

  22. Kelly Says:

Forgive me Fitness Guru, for I have sugar sinned….. On the 1st of November I vowed that no sugar or alcohol would pass my lips until the 30th… Yesterday I broke my vow, however slightly. I ate a slice of banana bread, a very small serving of white bread, and 3 pieces of sushi. I also enjoyed 2 glasses of champagne in the evening. The punishment I have given myself, is today I will endeavour to be super super healthy!!

  23. Leonie Says:

I am late in starting only heard about it last night. Have started today now I am accountable to others, so I hope I’ll stay on track.

  24. Peta Says:

    Sushi is bad? NO WAY!!!

I signed onto to seek absolution but maybe I’m worse than I thought. No sugar in the morning cofee is hard, but pretending it tastes OK. The work lolly jar sits adjacent to my desk so it’s very ’sociable’ to eat and chat – but I’ve proudly resisted. I won a box of Ferrero Rochers on melb Cup day for doing a horse impersonation (we are a sad lot!) and have used them as blackmail with workmates, but ‘forgot’ the minties I raid on the receptionists desk DO contain sugar. So none today or yest.

  25. Troy Shipsey Says:

Peta, very proud of the coffee, the lolly jar and the choccies. it’s funny to think that offices make people fat. Females especially. Check out this article – http://blog.fittabodies.com/2009/11/04/pregnancy-weight-gain-and-junk-food/
Stay away from those minties, we are aiming to change your tastebuds, it won’t happen with a sweet hit all the time, even if it was an artificial sweetener. Unless they are making your sushi with basmati rice, it is against the rules of the challenge, so start doing burpees for the minties at least.

  26. Sheena C Says:

    I need to do this.

This is going to be torture, but will give it a shot !

  27. Peta Says:

How do we feel about dried apricots?

  28. Peta Says:

OK – found the rules…… apricots no go.

Lite natural yoghurt with added fresh fruit if VILE!
